v Every Web server has an IP address and possibly a domain name. For example, if you enter the URLhttp://www.sspc.ac.in/index.html in your browser, this sends a request to the server whose domain name is sspc.ac.in. The server then fetches the page named index.html and sends it to your browser.

v There are many Web server software applications, including public domain software from NCSA and Apache, and commercial packages from Microsoft, Netscape and others.
v The term webserver can mean one of two things:
A computer program that is responsible for accepting HTTPrequests from clients, which are known as web browsers, and serving them HTTP responses along with optional data contents, which usually are web pages such as HTML documents and linked objects (images, etc.).
